In recent years, with the rapid development of life science and imaging technology, the detection rate of pituitary diseases has increased rapidly. The etiology of pituitary diseases, especially pituitary neuroendocrine tumor (TSH-PitNET), is complex and involves multisystem damage, and the prognosis is changing. The best clinical diagnosis and treatment decisions need to be discussed by multidisciplinary experts according to the patient's wishes.
Faced with this situation, West China Hospital has drawn on the experience of other hospitals at home and abroad and established the pituitary tumors center of excellence (PTCOE), including multidisciplinary team or treatment (MDT) combined with out-of-hospital chronic disease health management. Particularly speaking, relevant multidisciplinary information will formulate the best treatment plan for patients through consultation. Long-term follow-up and health management are led by the endocrinology department and nursing team after surgery.
The PTCOE model formulated a reasonable treatment plan based on fully assessing risks and benefits by in-depth discussions between experts and physicians in various disciplines. In terms of patients, they can obtain a diagnosis and a reasonable treatment plan through a joint outpatient clinic, which saves the patient's time and medical costs and improves the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment. In addition, they also received health management after the operation. At the same time, the PTCOE model also provides a better learning platform for physicians from different disciplines, promoting the improvement of professional diagnosis and treatment, which benefits more patients with pituitary diseases.
