Biography

Andrew Collins is Professor of Genetic Epidemiology and Bioinformatics at the University of Southampton. He began his research career in 1989 and has led the Genetic Epidemiology and Bioinformatics research group since 2002. He has developed diverse research projects spanning disease gene mapping, chromosome non-disjunction and aberrant recombination patterns, bioinformatic prediction of imprinted and disease genes, biological properties of chromosomes, segregation analysis, linkage mapping studies of various diseases, genome-wide association mapping and next generation sequencing. Recent research projects include development and application of machine learning methods for disease genomics and resolving causal genes, bioinformatic analysis of next generation sequence data and development of polygenic risk score models. Professor Collins has published 200 papers and edited the book ‘Linkage disequilibrium and association mapping: Analysis and Applications’
